Floor Insulation – Cold Storage:

Providing and application of floor insulation treatment with 50 mm thick Insuboard (XPS) Extruded Polystyrene Board in double layer (50 mm + 50 mm), having thermal conductivity of 0.028 W/m.K, density 40 Kg/mtr.cub, compressive strength of > 400 kPa, water absorption of 0.2 % by volume,   B2 grade fire compliance, in the size of 600mm width x 1250 mm Length x 50 mm thick with shiplap joint, boards fixed in staggered / brick pattern, over the waterproofing / damp proofing layer. After the application of Insuboard, 200 GSM polypropylene geotextile to be used a separation layer before finishing the surface with reinforced cement concrete (RCC) as final finishing as directed by the Engineer In Charge as per the details below:

APPLICATION METHODOLOGY

  • The civil contractor shall pour PCC concrete below raft/footing etc., and level it.  The PCC will have minimum thickness as specified by Structural Engineers or as specified by Engineer-in-Charge.  The PCC shall give honeycomb-free levelled surface.  The civil contractor shall cure the PCC by spraying water over it periodically. The PCC will be allowed to set for a minimum period of 7-10 days and then clean the PCC concrete surface thoroughly.
  • Grind  or fill surface  at  cold  joints  where  each  concrete  pour  is  at  different  level to provide  smooth and  level surface.
  • Providing & application of waterproofing /damp proofing treatment as per the direction of engineer in charge.
  • Supplying & application of 50 mm thick Insuboard (XPS), Extruded Polystyrene Board, 40 kg/m3 density, > 400 kpa compressive strength & thermal conductivity 0.028 w/m.k, of size 600 mm x 1.25 mtr in 2 layers in staggered / brick pattern, over the waterproofing / damp proofing layer.
  • Supply & application of 200 GSM polypropylene based geo-textile fabric to be used as separation layer.
  • Providing & Laying Reinforced cement concrete (RCC) slab as per the direction of engineer in charge.

MATERIAL - GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Extruded Polystyrene boards to be manufactured from General Purpose polystyrene granules though an automated extrusion process free of CFC blowing agents : preferably with a blend of co2 & ethanol : low Global warming index : the boards are 100 % closed cell structure with a unique properties of high compressive strength & a stable thermal conductivity properties over the life cycle of building etc.

APPROVED SYSTEM:

The boards of size 600mm width x 1250 mm length & 50 mm thickness with square edge to be laid in brick patterns in double layer. Insuboard to be covered with geotextile before laying final floor finish.

FINISH:

Reinforced cement concrete (RCC) slab as per the direction of engineer in charge.

THERMAL PERFORMANCE:

The extruded polystyrene EIFS system improves the thermal efficiency of the building by reducing the U value as per the prescribed norms in the ECBC codes depending on the type of building  in terms of hours of operations & geographical location. The thermal performance is very stable through out  the life cycle of the building. It improves the thermal comfort & also helps in optimising the loads thereby reducing the capex & operating cost of HVAC systems.

FIRE PERFORMANCE:

XPS boards must be fully tested in accordance with DIN 4102 part 1 with regard to fire properties, flame spread , & surface burning characteristics . Also suitable Fire stops , sleeves, PU selant, Rockwool sleeves etc wherever there are electrical cut outs & opening. The boards must be of self extinguishing characteristic etc.

QUALITY ASSURANCE:

The suspended ceiling system is to be manufactured within a recognized quality management system as per ISO 4898 & ASTM C 576 requirements. Each batch should also have the Raw material GPPS test certificates.
